I founded The Law Office of Jill R. Sex offender registration requirements under Megan’s Law and Lifetime Parole Supervision (LPS) can keep convicted felons indebted for the rest of their lives. Megan’s Law Requirements in New Jersey

If you are convicted of certain serious sex crimes in New Jersey, you will likely be required to register as a convicted sex offender under Megan’s law. The registration process typically involves filling out necessary forms and paperwork at least once per year. (Violent sex crime offenders may have to register every 90 days.) In addition to registering with the state database for sex offenders, you will also have your name placed on a national sex offender registry as part of Megan’s law community notification requirement. The personal information on the registry may be passed out to your neighbors and coworkers. Perhaps worst of all, information about your sex offender status will be available to anyone with access to a computer – that’s because the New Jersey state police will also put your criminal record on the internet.

Parole Supervision For Life

Additionally, Megan’s Law imposes parole supervision for life, which means that a convicted offender will have the terms and conditions of parole, including an assigned parole officer, for the rest of the offender’s life. A convicted offender subject to PSL could also potentially be required to wear a monitoring device that tracks every movement. At the very least, after 15 years, the court may grant a request to release a convicted offender from parole supervision. In other words, any convicted sex offender must not commit any other crimes in the future, or they could immediately end up back in jail, serving an extended sentence in prison.

Motions to Terminate Megan’s Law and Parole Supervision For Life

I have experience filing motions to terminate Megan’s Law and parole supervision for life. If 10 years have passed without any further involvement with the New Jersey criminal justice system, the strict conditions of Megan’s Law and parole supervision for life can often be reconsidered. Freeing yourself from the strict provisions imposed could potentially greatly impact the quality of your life. Your career options may change, and your contact with children and adults may be restored. I am a well-respected criminal defense attorney in the legal community in South Jersey. If anyone can get Megan’s Law and parole supervision lifted, it’s me.
