A Practice Based On Empathy And Experience
Not all criminal defense lawyers start out protecting defendants. At The Law Office of Jill R. Cohen, I draw upon my 15-plus years as a criminal prosecutor to provide my clients with a wealth of vital experience in criminal defense cases. I tirelessly defend clients charged with all types of crimes in Camden County and the surrounding areas. You can trust me to go above and beyond for your defense.
My Background Speaks To My Passion
I am attorney Jill R. Cohen, and defending clients is my calling. In 2006, I became eager to help those who were often wrongly accused of crimes in New Jersey. I founded The Law Office of Jill R. Cohen and, from 2007 to 2008, I defended clients against DWIs in countless municipalities and county courts. I argued many appeals in the Superior Court of New Jersey and successfully won several cases on appeal ending in dismissal of DWIs.
I focus on staying at the top of my craft. In 2008, my peers recommended me to take an examination in criminal law expertise, and I earned certification through the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Certified Criminal Trial Attorney. Recently, I also completed an Advanced Advocacy course at the National Criminal Defense College in Macon, Georgia, where I received guidance from experts throughout the country.
Offering Unique Resources For Your Defense Case
Now, I represent individuals facing serious allegations, including:
- Murder, manslaughter, felony murder and strict liability for murder
- Aggravated assaults, sexual abuse and aggravated sexual assaults
- Child abuse
- Drug offenses
- Money laundering and other forms of fraud
- Robbery, burglary and theft
- Juvenile offenses
I have achieved many acquittals in many serious cases in courtrooms throughout the state. In addition, I argue cases before the Superior Court of New Jersey. I treat every client as if they are a member of my family. I am available every day to answer calls and meet with clients in need.
Because of my vast experience of over 30 years in the criminal justice system in Philadelphia and New Jersey and my years as an assistant district attorney and county prosecutor, I am familiar with the personnel in the court system and the assistants in the prosecutor’s offices. I have a great working relationship with people who are in a position of deciding my clients’ futures.
There are few attorneys in our area of South Jersey who have the care mixed with the experience that I have. I use my experience to get you the best results possible and won’t back down until all avenues are exhausted.
I Stay Active In Criminal Law Beyond My Firm
I graduated with high honors in the top 10 percent of my class in 1981 from Widener University School of Law, Wilmington, Delaware. I was chosen to join the prestigious law review for the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law. Following law school, I was chosen to clerk for the Hon. George J. Ivins, who was in charge of the homicide program in the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia. I then accepted an appointment to the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office under the Honorable Edward G. Rendell, as an assistant Philadelphia district attorney.
A number of years later, with a strong foundation of criminal prosecution beneath my feet, I moved to South Jersey and was appointed assistant prosecutor in the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office under the Hon. Lee Solomon. As a criminal prosecutor, I litigated complex motions for the state, was an acting Camden City municipal prosecutor, and indicted over 800 cases before the Camden County Grand Jury.
In addition to my private practice at The Law Office of Jill R. Cohen, I currently work with Deputy Public Defenders in Atlantic County, Camden County, Gloucester County and Burlington County. Through this work, I defend clients accused of homicides, sexual assaults, murder-for-hire, gang violence, armed robberies, fraud and leading drug trafficking networks, as well as other significant matters.
