Assault charges can be based on a wide range of scenarios. In some cases, a person charged with assault may not even have been the one who initiated the attack. Depending on the facts of the situation, you may have one or more legal defenses available. For instance, you may be able to argue that both you and the other person agreed to the fight, that you never intended to cause injury or harm, or that you acted in self-defense.
Because the penalties for an assault charge may be severe, it’s important to seek help for any type of assault charge. An experienced lawyer can help you build a case and protect your legal rights throughout the process. In some cases, assault charges can be reduced or even dismissed completely – and working with a lawyer helps you to maximize your chances of obtaining one of these more positive outcomes.
