Brooklawn NJ Man Arrested, Accused of Blasting Shotgun Outside Apartment Complex

Brooklawn Man Allegedly Used Shotgun Outside Apartments

Police recently arrested a Brooklawn New Jersey man accused of walking throughout the borough with a shotgun and firing it at one point.
The incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. near the Brooklawn Norse Apartments located on Browning Lane in Brooklawn, NJ. The scary sight of a man walking around the neighborhood while carrying a shotgun prompted several 911 calls from concerned residents. Some callers told police dispatchers that the man discharged the shotgun into a car parked outside an apartment. (Brooklawn detectives later determined that the man probably fired the shotgun at a wooded fence.)
The Brooklawn Police Department sent police officers to the scene of the alleged shooting. The Brooklawn cops established a perimeter around the apartment complex and waited for the suspect to become visible. At some point, an eyewitness notified law enforcement that the suspect had walked out of one of the apartment buildings. Brooklawn police officers subsequently located and arrested the suspect without incident.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence allegedly turned up a shotgun and two handguns.
Thankfully, nobody sustained any injuries during the incident.
The suspect is a 51-year-old man who lives in the Brooklawn Norse Apartments. He now faces multiple criminal charges for weapons offenses, including unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The suspect has also been charged with fourth degree aggravated assault because he allegedly discharged one of the weapons.
The reality is that the suspect could end up spending a very long time behind bars if he is ultimately convicted on the most serious criminal charges. That’s because NJ law imposes severe penalties for weapons offenses. For instance, the New Jersey Graves Act requires the imposition of mandatory minimum prison sentences for anyone convicted of illegally possessing a firearm.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was remanded to the Camden County Jail in Camden, NJ. He was being held at the correctional facility in lieu of a $50K bail amount.
