With over 15 years of experience as a New Jersey prosecutor, Attorney Jill R. Cohen knows criminal cases from the inside out and is familiar with both sides of the courtroom. Armed with this wealth of experience, she fights hard to defend clients charged with all kinds of crimes in Westmont and throughout Camden County.
Eager to represent the wrongfully accused and protect clients from and overzealous judicial system, Attorney Jill Cohen left her role as a prosecutor to found The Law Office of Jill R. Cohen in 2006. Between 2007 and 2008, she defended people charged with DWI throughout New Jersey and argued numerous appeals in the Superior Court of New Jersey.
Today, Ms. Cohen has expanded her criminal defense practice to represent clients accused of anything from murder, manslaughter, and assault to child abuse, rape, and drug crimes. She has what it takes to defend against virtually any type of felony or misdemeanor charge.
To solidify her devotion to the practice of criminal defense, Ms. Cohen became certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Certified Criminal Trial Lawyer. She has also completed the National Criminal Defense College’s Advanced Advocacy course.
Attorney Jill Cohen takes a client-focused and results-driven approach to law, treating every client like a member of her own family. She is always available to take calls, answer questions, and meet with clients.
With more than 30 years of experience working in the region’s criminal justice system, Ms. Cohen is extremely familiar with the region’s court system personnel. She leverages her strong working relationships with judges, fellow attorneys, and other officials who play a role in her clients’ cases.
Attorney Jill Cohen graduated from Widener University School of Law in 1981 – she was in the top 10% of her class. While in law school, she was selected to join the law review for the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law. After graduating, she accepted a position as a law clerk for the Hon. George J. Ivins, who at the time led the homicide program in the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia. Following her clerkship, Ms. Cohen was appointed to the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney.
Upon moving to South Jersey several years later, Ms. Cohen served as an assistant prosecutor in the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office. While there, she handled numerous complex motions, served as an acting Camden City Municipal Prosecutor, and indicted more than 800 cases before the Camden County Grand Jury.
Throughout her career, Ms. Cohen has handled countless felony, misdemeanor, and juvenile cases as well as numerous jury trials. While handling criminal cases in her private practice, she also currently works with Deputy Public Defenders in Atlantic County, Camden County, Gloucester County, and Burlington County to defend clients in significant felony cases.
